Srinagar: Masroor Abbas Ansari, a prominent leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and President of Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen, has been placed under house arrest in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), according to reports from Kashmir Media Service. This move comes as a preventive measure by the New Delhi-installed IIOJK administration, barring him from attending a significant religious event.

Ansari, who was scheduled to participate in a religious gathering in Pattan, Baramulla district, found his plans disrupted by the administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The authorities detained him at his residence located in HMT Colony, Srinagar.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Ansari expressed his concerns about the situation. He stated, “The Indian authorities have placed me under house arrest by deploying a heavy troop presence around my residence to prevent me from attending the Hussaini Majlis in Hanjiwera (Pattan), held to mark the martyrdom of Imam Jafar Sadiq (AS).”

The house arrest of Ansari, a significant figure in the region’s socio-political landscape, has once again brought attention to the ongoing tensions in Jammu and Kashmir. The action taken by the authorities raises questions about the freedom of movement and assembly within the disputed region.
