Islamabad: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan convened a high-level strategic meeting to address the post-National Skills Competency Test (NSCT) scenario, with a focus on competency-based skills and curriculum reforms intended to enhance the quality and relevance of higher education in the country. The meeting emphasized aligning academic curricula with national development priorities and the evolving requirements of the workforce.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, detailed discussions were held on improving graduates’ employability through competency-based education and strengthening industry-academia partnerships. HEC Chairman Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar highlighted the need for higher education institutions to produce graduates equipped with essential knowledge, competencies, and professional skills to effectively support Pakistan’s socio-economic development.

The meeting also examined the post-NSCT landscape, deliberating on strategies to embed competency-based learning, assessment, and certification mechanisms across higher education institutions. Participants underscored the importance of ensuring that academic programs remain responsive to technological progress, industry needs, and global standards.

Reaffirming HEC’s dedication to quality enhancement, the Chairman stressed the importance of effectively implementing the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum, along with quality assurance mechanisms and academic standards in universities. He stated that strengthening OBE practices would enhance learning outcomes, promote innovation, and boost the international recognition of Pakistani graduates.

The meeting concluded with a consensus on accelerating curriculum reforms, fostering competency-driven education, and ensuring close coordination among stakeholders to develop a future-ready higher education system that supports national development goals.
