Islamabad: The meteorological department has forecasted a significant heatwave starting today, with a high-pressure system expected to cause soaring temperatures across the nation. The southern regions are likely to experience severe conditions from tomorrow, with daytime temperatures predicted to rise 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal levels.

In central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, temperatures are expected to be 4 to 6 degrees Celsius higher than usual until April 18th. Warmer nights are anticipated, potentially leading to dust storms or windstorms as a result of excessive heat.

The Pakistan meteorological department has issued an advisory urging the public, particularly children, women, and senior citizens, to exercise caution. To mitigate health risks, individuals are encouraged to avoid direct sunlight, maintain hydration, and adjust outdoor activities as necessary. Farmers are advised to protect their livestock from the extreme conditions.

Additionally, rising temperatures in northern areas may accelerate snowmelt. Wind or dust storms could pose a threat to loose structures including electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels in susceptible areas.
