LAHORE: The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination has entered into a partnership with the National AI Hub, established by Lahore University of Management Sciences, to promote the use of artificial intelligence in the health sector. The collaboration aims to improve maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes through responsible AI integration.

According to Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) sets the stage for collaboration in research, innovation, and policy engagement in AI for healthcare. The joint effort will focus on identifying national priorities, developing AI-enabled solutions, and ensuring their ethical application within Pakistan’s health system.

The agreement was signed by key representatives from both the Ministry and LUMS, including Mr. Muhammad Aslam Ghauri, Federal Secretary, and Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost at LUMS. The initiative is supported by various stakeholders, including the Gates Foundation.

Mr. Ghauri highlighted the collaboration’s potential to enhance maternal and child health services through AI, while Dr. Jadoon emphasized the opportunity to leverage interdisciplinary research for public benefit. The partnership will facilitate research, technical cooperation, and stakeholder engagement to foster resilient and equitable health systems in Pakistan.
