Jammu, July 29, 2023 (PPI-OT):Hundreds of members of Gujjar-Bakerwal community held a strong protest demonstration in Jammu city against the Indian government’s move to grant schedule tribe (ST) status to upper-caste Paharis in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The occupation authorities had deployed a strong posse of Indian police to prevent the protesting youth from blocking Tawi Bridge. However, the angry protestors staged a sit-in on the bridge to express their anger against the Indian government’s move.
The protesters said that the BJP government was hell bent upon ruining social harmony in the occupied territory. “The BJP has pitted one community against another,” said a protestor. Indian police used brute force on the protesters and arrested several of them. It is to mention here that the BJP government has included a Bill in the ongoing session of Lok Sabha seeking grant of ST status to the Pahari tribals of occupied Kashmir.
