ISLAMABAD: The Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, announced the government’s commitment to the welfare of journalists, unveiling a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing their capacity and addressing financial challenges. The announcements were made during the inauguration ceremony of the National Press Club’s website.

According to Radio Pakistan, Attaullah Tarar highlighted the importance of the National Press Club as a key part of Islamabad’s media community. The Minister welcomed the club’s move towards digitalization with the launch of its website and instructed authorities to establish a digital lab at the facility. The government, he noted, is ensuring the timely payment of dues to television channels and emphasized the responsibility of media organizations to pay journalists’ salaries on time.

Tarar also mentioned the introduction of health cards for journalists as part of their social welfare enhancement, while housing issues would be addressed in consultation with the media community. In response to the evolving media landscape, he announced plans for short training courses to boost journalists’ digital content creation skills. The Minister reiterated the government’s efforts to develop a policy aimed at tackling the financial difficulties encountered by journalists and media organizations, emphasizing the shared responsibility between the government and journalists in promoting both electronic and print media.
