Karachi: In a move to foster local sports development, the Governor House of Sindh and the Karachi Tap Ball Premier League have signed a memorandum of understanding. The signing ceremony, described as simple yet dignified, took place at the Governor House, where Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tesuri and Zoheer Naseer of the Karachi Tap Ball Premier League formalized their partnership. This agreement establishes the Governor of Sindh as the Chief Patron of the league and the Patron of the Karachi Night team.
According to Sindh Governor House, the pact was signed in the presence of notable figures including legendary players Haroon Rasheed and Tauseef Ahmed. During a media interaction following the ceremony, Governor Tesuri highlighted the nostalgic value of tape ball cricket and expressed his commitment to transitioning the sport from street play to stadium games. He announced that the upcoming league matches would take place from December 14 to December 29, 2024, with an aim to host them at the National Stadium Karachi.
Governor Tesuri also shared his personal involvement with the Karachi Night team, emphasizing his role in promoting sporting activities in the region. He outlined the broader objectives of this initiative, which includes distributing one lakh tennis balls among Karachi’s youth to spark interest in sports. Additionally, he called on parents to encourage their talented daughters to participate, underscoring the administration’s efforts to elevate women’s sports to a world-class level. The encouragement from Arshad Nadeem, a gold medalist, was also mentioned as a morale booster for other athletes.
This strategic collaboration between the Governor House and the Karachi Tap Ball Premier League is seen as a significant step toward nurturing sports talent and increasing community engagement in Karachi.
