Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has reiterated the government’s dedication to eradicating poliovirus transmission across the country. He emphasized the importance of continuing national efforts until the virus is completely eliminated, highlighting the initiative as a crucial step for the health and future of Pakistan’s children.

According to Radio Pakistan, Iqbal chaired a meeting of the Prime Minister’s Committee on the National Taskforce for Polio Eradication, where he described polio eradication as a national responsibility. He called upon religious scholars, community leaders, and opinion-makers to help dispel misinformation and bolster public trust in the vaccination process.

During the meeting, it was reported that Pakistan has seen a significant reduction in polio cases, decreasing from thirty-one in 2025 to four in 2026. Additionally, the positivity rate in environmental surveillance samples has dropped below ten percent, signaling progress in the country’s fight against the virus.
