Government Announces Rs 440 Billion Subsidy for Electricity Bills to Ease Public Burden


Islamabad: In a significant financial relief effort, the government has declared a subsidy of 440 billion rupees to mitigate the impact of electricity costs on the public. The new tariff adjustments will ensure a minimal increase in electricity bills for the majority of domestic users and aim to support economic stability by fostering industrial growth.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, The new electricity tariff structure will introduce a modest two percent increase for 58 percent of domestic consumers. Affluent customers will see a higher adjustment, with a nine percent increase in their bills. The revised tariffs are set to be implemented starting this month. The government also anticipates a potential reduction in power tariffs by January of the next year, contingent on economic recovery. This adjustment is expected to bring down the electricity rates from their June levels.



Moreover, the statement highlighted a significant reduction in the financial burden on the industrial sector, with a cut of 150 billion rupees. This move is part of a broader strategy to stimulate industrial activity and enhance the country’s economic framework.
