Islamabad: Deputy Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman, met with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, at Parliament House. The meeting focused on enhancing legislative cooperation and the potential socio-economic benefits of regional projects.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq congratulated Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman on his recent election and extended his best wishes for his new role. The Speaker emphasized the National Assembly’s commitment to increasing collaboration with legislative bodies across the country. He highlighted the importance of training programs under the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services to improve the legislative performance of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.

Speaker Sadiq discussed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a pivotal project for regional development, noting the untapped potential of Gilgit-Baltistan in mineral resources and tourism. He called for modernization in mineral exploration and extraction, stressing public participation and institutional reforms for sustainable development. Additionally, he underscored the transformative benefits of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project in terms of water security and energy generation.

Deputy Speaker Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman expressed gratitude for the Speaker’s support and conveyed appreciation for the continued partnership between the assemblies.
