Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, chaired the 8th meeting of the Cabinet Committee formed by the Prime Minister to review the recommendations of the Drug Pricing Committee and the Policy Board of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). Key ministers, including the Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Mr. Mustafa Kamal, and the Federal Minister for Defense Production, Mr. Muhammad Raza Hayat Harraj, were present.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting featured a comprehensive presentation from DRAP that addressed new drug price fixation cases, hardship applications, pricing matters, and the availability of essential medicines. The presentation also included updates on progress since the last meeting and laid out proposals for the Committee’s consideration.

Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb stressed that drug pricing decisions should be transparent and evidence-based, with a consultative approach that serves the broader public interest. He highlighted the necessity of balancing patient access to essential medicines with the sustainability of the pharmaceutical supply and affordability for patients. The minister further noted the importance of engaging the public clearly to explain the decisions affecting critical medicines.

In addition to the Cabinet Members, senior public officials, including Secretary National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Mr. Muhammad Aslam Ghauri, the Chief Executive Officer of DRAP, and representatives from the Commerce and Finance Divisions, also attended the meeting.
