Finance Minister Engages with World Bank on Economic Reforms and Social Protection


Washington, D.C.: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, initiated his participation at the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings 2026 with a meeting with Anna Bjerde, Managing Director (Operations) of the World Bank Group. During this meeting in Washington, D.C., they focused on economic reforms and social protection strategies amid geopolitical tensions.



According to Press Information Department, the Finance Minister expressed gratitude for the World Bank Group’s consistent support towards Pakistan’s reform and development agenda. Discussions revolved around Pakistan’s economic outlook, particularly addressing the ramifications of the ongoing Middle East conflict. Both parties recognized the necessity of enhancing social protection measures to mitigate the impact on vulnerable populations.



The meeting also assessed progress under the Country Partnership Framework (CPF). While acknowledging advancements in key areas, they stressed the importance of sustained efforts to meet the framework’s goals fully. The Finance Minister emphasized the need for a coordinated federal and provincial strategy to tackle demographic challenges and sought the World Bank Group’s assistance in formulating a comprehensive Master Plan.
