Finance Minister Briefs IMF on Pakistan’s Economic Strategy


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, provided an overview of Pakistan’s economic strategy to the visiting International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission, highlighting the nation’s macroeconomic outlook, fiscal strategy, and reform priorities aimed at sustainable stability and growth.



According to Press Information Department: The discussions with the IMF focused on macroeconomic stabilization, upcoming federal budget preparations, and structural reforms to promote investment, productivity, and export-led growth. Both parties emphasized maintaining reform momentum and preserving macroeconomic stability within a balanced policy framework.



The Finance Minister expressed appreciation for the IMF’s continued engagement and noted productive discussions from earlier meetings in Washington. He highlighted positive trends in remittances and exports, reflecting resilience and strengthening macroeconomic fundamentals.



Senator Aurangzeb acknowledged structural challenges, particularly external liabilities, and reiterated the government’s commitment to reform, aiming to avoid boom-and-bust cycles and enhance export competitiveness. He emphasized that ongoing policy measures are part of a broader transformation strategy, developed with international experts.



The meeting also covered Pakistan’s engagement with international partners, including China, and efforts to mobilize long-term investment. The IMF Mission, led by Mission Chief Ms. Iva Petrova, acknowledged Pakistan’s progress in maintaining stability and appreciated the government’s commitment to prudent economic management.



Discussions included the macroeconomic framework, reform agenda, and budget priorities. The IMF reaffirmed its commitment to cooperation with Pakistan, supporting the country’s reform programme and economic resilience.



The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Governor State Bank of Pakistan Mr. Jameel Ahmad and Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Mr. Rashid Mahmood Langrial.
