Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, highlighted the critical role of science and technology in advancing Pakistan’s future during a special address at Islamabad Model College for Girls F-6/2 as part of Space Week 2024 celebrations.
According to Press Information Department, the event, aligned with the global observance of Space Week from October 4th to 10th, aimed to inspire students to pursue careers in science and technology. In his speech, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the importance of these fields in securing Pakistan’s position among developed nations and coping with modern challenges such as climate change and natural disasters.
Professor Ahsan Iqbal pointed out that historical Islamic civilizations thrived when they prioritized knowledge and research, suggesting a need to revive these values to prevent decline. He lamented the current lack of capacity for space research in Muslim countries and stressed the Quranic directive for Muslims to explore and conquer celestial bodies.
The Minister underscored the significance of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, mentioning that advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology, and biotechnology are setting new standards of progress. He also noted the practical applications of space technology in daily life, such as in Google Maps and aircraft navigation, and its potential for future innovations like new energy sources or growing human organs in space.
Ahsan Iqbal advocated for annual celebrations of Space Week to foster an interest in space science among the youth and prepare them for future scientific endeavors. He concluded by encouraging the youth to dedicate themselves to science and research, expressing confidence in their ability to lead Pakistan to prominence on the global stage.
