Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, alongside Director General (Textile) Mudassar Raza Siddiqi, met with members of the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) to discuss strategies aimed at enhancing the export competitiveness of Pakistan’s hand-knotted carpet industry in global markets.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting was attended by PCMEA leaders, including Patron In-Chief Abdul Latif Malik, Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmed, and Former Vice Chairman Usman Ashraf. The delegation pointed out that disruptions in regional trade and global supply chains are negatively affecting Pakistan’s carpet industry.

The association emphasized the necessity for a more business-friendly environment and regulatory support, noting that a stable framework would help the industry maintain its global market share and explore new export opportunities. Federal Minister Khan reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering exports through transparent, rules-based, and investor-friendly policies. He assured that the Ministry of Commerce would review the industry’s suggestions with relevant stakeholders to formulate practical solutions within the current legal and regulatory framework.

Khan highlighted that Pakistan’s export strategy focuses on value addition, strengthening export-led manufacturing, enhancing product branding, and expanding the country’s presence in global value chains. He encouraged the industry to diversify export markets, innovate products, and leverage Pakistan’s recognized craftsmanship.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed ways to improve trade connectivity and logistics to ease access to international markets. Khan affirmed the government’s dedication to collaborating with the private sector to address trade barriers and foster an environment conducive to sustainable export-led growth.

The delegation expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Commerce’s proactive engagement and voiced confidence that ongoing public-private collaboration would aid in revitalizing Pakistan’s carpet exports and bolster the sector’s role in the national economy.
