Islamabad: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan chaired a high-level meeting focused on implementing axle load management, emphasizing the need for strict enforcement of regulations to prevent vehicle overloading, particularly as trucks exit Karachi Port.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting included a detailed briefing by the IG National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) on the current status of axle load management. While the situation on motorways was reported as satisfactory, improvements were deemed necessary on national highways. The discussions covered the impact of vehicle overloading on infrastructure and the strategies required to enforce axle load limits.

Minister Khan directed the establishment of a robust accountability system to oversee weigh station operations and to address enforcement loopholes. He advocated for severe financial penalties to deter truck owners from exceeding load limits. The minister also called for collaboration with provincial transport departments to tackle enforcement issues across borders and address legal gaps. A working group led by the Secretary for Communications will be formed to streamline execution plans. The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials, including Secretary Communications Ali Sher Mahsood, DG Frontier Works Organisation Major General Abdul Sami, DG National Logistics Cell Major General Rao Farrukh, Chairman NHA Captain (Rtd) Asadullah Khan, and IG NHMP Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry, along with representatives from provincial departments and industry stakeholders.
