Islamabad: The Emergency Response Committee, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, convened its seventh session to assess the national preparedness amidst the ongoing monsoon season. The meeting, held at the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) within the NDMA Headquarters, was chaired via video link by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal.

According to Press Information Department, the session saw the participation of Federal Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, attending in person at NEOC, while other key figures such as Federal Minister for Climate Change, Dr. Musadik Malik, and Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, joined virtually. Provincial ministers, chief secretaries, and senior officials from various federal ministries and disaster management authorities were also present.

During the session, the Chairman of NDMA and the NEOC team provided a detailed briefing on the monsoon situation, highlighting recent incidents, their impact on human lives and infrastructure, and the status of rescue and relief operations. The NEOC also shared updates on the hydrological conditions and potential hazards.

The Committee evaluated the response efforts by federal ministries, provincial governments, and district administrations, commending their efforts in community protection, rescue missions, and restoration of services. Emphasizing the need for continuous coordination among stakeholders, the participants stressed on a timely and efficient response to any arising challenges.

The Convener urged all departments to maintain their current operational pace, ensure seamless coordination, and accelerate relief and rehabilitation activities as necessary.
