Faisalabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has called on the Faisalabad business community to achieve a 20 percent increase in exports, promising that he would recommend the establishment of an Expo Centre in the city next year if this target is met.

According to Press Information Department, the minister made this announcement during the Business Excellence Awards ceremony organized by the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) to celebrate its 50 years. Faisalabad, recognized as a significant industrial and export hub in Pakistan, requires enhanced facilities and infrastructure to further tap into its economic potential, he noted.

During his visit, Ahsan Iqbal inaugurated a Podcast Room, Passport Facilitation Centre, and SMEDA Liaison Office at the FCCI. He highlighted Faisalabad’s crucial role in the national economy, particularly through its textile and industrial sectors. The minister emphasized the need for collaboration between the government and private sector to boost the city’s global competitiveness and innovation.

He referenced Pakistan’s economic initiatives, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has brought investment and opportunities for industrial development. Ahsan Iqbal stated that Pakistan is shifting from economic stabilization toward sustainable growth under URAAN Pakistan, aiming to transform into a $1 trillion economy by 2035. This goal necessitates increased exports and stronger partnerships between government, industry, and academia.

The minister underscored the importance of policy continuity, political stability, and modern reforms to enhance productivity and competitiveness in international markets. He urged the FCCI to actively develop member capacity, facilitate access to international markets, and promote exports.

Ahsan Iqbal assured the business community that their concerns about taxation and RTO-related issues would be conveyed to the Prime Minister, along with their demand for an airport in Faisalabad. FCCI representatives highlighted the city’s economic contributions and called for improved infrastructure, an IT university, and an airport to support growing industrial activities. The business community expressed its commitment to working with the government for economic growth and stability.
