European Union Commits EUR 100 Million Grant to Enhance Pakistan’s Post-Flood Resilience

Islamabad, The European Union (EU) has fulfilled its pledge by providing an additional grant of EUR 100 million to support Pakistan’s post-flood resilience efforts. EU Ambassador to Pakistan, Ms. Riina Kionka, and Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, signed five new EU grant agreements as part of Team Europe’s response to the 2022 post-flood Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Framework.

According to Press Information Department, this new EU support package aims to fortify Pakistan’s resilience following the devastating floods, bringing the total Team Europe response to over EUR 930 million. The focus areas include revitalizing the rural economy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and restoring disrupted livestock value chains in flood-affected Balochistan. These activities align with the EU Global Gateway initiative, the largest EU investment program designed to propel the global green transition.

The package also targets investments in human rights, gender equality, and civil society, enhancing Pakistan’s long-term resilience. Secretary Dr. Kazim Niaz expressed gratitude for the EU’s support and highlighted the ongoing unmet needs in flood-affected areas. EU Ambassador Kionka reaffirmed the EU and Team Europe’s commitment to sustainably improve lives in the most affected communities in KP and Balochistan, emphasizing the EU’s vision for a stable, democratic, and pluralistic Pakistan that respects human rights and maximizes its economic potential.
