Islamabad: European Union Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis has underscored the significant potential for expanding business ties between the European Union and Pakistan, focusing on the opportunities provided by Pakistan’s GSP Plus status.
According to Radio Pakistan, Karoblis, in an interview with Zafar Iqbal, stated that the GSP Plus status offers Pakistan duty-free access to European markets, which presents substantial opportunities for Pakistani exports. The European Union is currently the largest destination for these exports. Karoblis identified traditional sectors such as textiles and garments as areas with potential for increased export activities. Additionally, he mentioned that several European companies have shown interest in investing in Pakistan, particularly in sectors like mining.
Karoblis also noted that an ongoing forum is set to explore cooperation in digital innovation, fintech, and sustainable logistics, signaling an interest in diversifying the areas of economic collaboration. On the diplomatic front, he lauded Pakistan’s role as a mediator between the United States and Iran and emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to global peace through its diplomatic engagements with the United States, Iran, and Gulf countries.
