Islamabad: The Emergency Response Committee convened its eighth session to evaluate the national preparedness and response to ongoing monsoon rains, chaired via video link by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal. According to Press Information Department, the meeting, held at the National Emergencies Operations Centre, was attended by key federal and provincial officials to discuss the impact of recent monsoon incidents and the progress of rescue and relief operations.

Chairman NDMA and the NEOC team provided a detailed briefing on current monsoon-related challenges, human and infrastructure losses, and the status of rehabilitation efforts. The hydrological outlook was also reviewed, with rainfall predictions highlighting expected showers in northern and central regions, as well as southeastern Sindh.

The committee acknowledged the efforts of federal ministries, provincial governments, and district administrations in safeguarding communities and emphasized the necessity of maintaining close coordination among stakeholders. It was noted that factors such as population growth and climate variability are intensifying pressure on water resources.

The convener urged departments to maintain operational momentum, ensure coordination, and expedite necessary relief and rehabilitation activities.
