Election Official and BJP Candidate Pass Away During Election in Jammu and Kashmir


Jammu: In a series of unfortunate events during the elections in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, an election official and a BJP assembly candidate recently passed away. The incidents occurred amid the ongoing electoral process, adding to the tensions in the region.



According to Kashmir Media Service, Ashok Kumar, a 55-year-old official from the Mining Department serving on election duty, suffered a fatal heart attack at the Nanga polling station in the Ramgarh Assembly constituency of Samba district during the third and final phase of voting. His sudden demise has raised concerns over the stress and pressures faced by election officials in the region.



In a separate incident, Syed Mushtaq Bukhari, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Surankote constituency, died of natural causes at his residence in Pamrote, Poonch district. Aged 75, Bukhari had joined the BJP in February 2024 and was known for promoting the party’s regional rights agenda in Jammu and Kashmir.



These deaths occur in a charged atmosphere where electoral and regional dynamics continue to evolve, highlighting the personal risks faced by those involved in the political processes of the region.
