Islamabad: At the 68th meeting of the National Logistics Board, Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the crucial role of efficient logistics in driving economic competitiveness and export-led growth in Pakistan. The meeting focused on strategies to enhance regional connectivity and diversify export options for Pakistani products.

According to Press Information Department, the Board received briefings from the Quartermaster General of the Pakistan Army and other senior officials on the operational, administrative, and financial matters of the National Logistics Corporation (NLC). Discussions highlighted the establishment of Forward Transit Trade Hubs in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and China, alongside initiatives to strengthen logistics infrastructure and promote agricultural exports.

Ahsan Iqbal directed the NLC to prioritize the expansion of the Sost Dry Port and the establishment of a strategic border terminal at Khunjerab to bolster exports and regional trade connectivity. He proposed the establishment of a driving academy aligned with international standards to train drivers, emphasizing the need for trainees to acquire foreign language skills to improve cross-border trade communication.

The Minister underscored that logistics is a strategic enabler of economic resilience and national security. He stated that improving logistics is essential for achieving the goals of URAAN Pakistan, including export-led growth and regional connectivity. The meeting underscored the importance of an efficient, integrated, and technology-driven logistics ecosystem for Pakistan’s economic future.

Ahsan Iqbal praised NLC’s contributions to modernizing Pakistan’s logistics sector, recognizing its role in transforming the sector to support higher exports, attract investments, and position Pakistan as a key connectivity hub between South Asia, Central Asia, China, and the Middle East.
