London: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced Harry Brook as the new captain of England’s white-ball cricket team, succeeding Jos Buttler. Brook, 26, steps into the leadership role following Buttler’s resignation after a disappointing performance in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Brook has been a significant part of England’s batting lineup since 2022 and is currently ranked second in the ICC men’s test batting rankings. Over the past year, he has served as vice-captain in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

In September 2024, Brook made his captaincy debut against Australia, earning commendations for his strategic approach and composed leadership style. His leadership experience includes captaining the England U19 team during the 2018 ICC Men’s U19 World Cup.

Buttler’s captaincy tenure began with a triumphant T20 World Cup victory in 2022. However, it concluded after a series of underwhelming performances, highlighted by the team’s struggles in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and the unsuccessful defense of their title in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
