Washington, D.C.: The Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C., hosted the Diplomatic Trionda Cup 2026, a friendly soccer tournament that preceded the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2026 by three hours. The event celebrated themes of friendship, unity, and sportsmanship, while also highlighting Pakistan’s contributions to the global sporting goods industry.

According to Press Information Department, the tournament was a part of the ongoing celebrations for the United States’ 250th Anniversary. The event spotlighted the Trionda soccer ball, manufactured in Pakistan, which will be used in the World Cup. Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh emphasized the significance of the ball as a symbol of peace and global progress.

Attendees included diplomatic corps members, senior U.S. officials, and soccer enthusiasts, all gathered to promote shared values and international goodwill. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Mr. Paul Kapur, participated as the Chief Guest, leading the U.S. Department of State’s soccer team.

The tournament saw participation from several diplomatic missions, including those of Denmark, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Singapore, Nigeria, Egypt, and China. Ambassador Sheikh informed that Trionda, a smart soccer ball, is manufactured in Sialkot, known for high-quality sports goods.
