Islamabad: The former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Masood Khan, has called for continued democratic processes and dialogue to address the region’s political challenges. Khan, who has also served as Pakistan’s ambassador to multiple countries, emphasized the importance of constitutional continuity and political maturity in achieving lasting stability in the region.

According to President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khan’s remarks came during a television interview on the second phase of the Legislative Assembly elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He supported the Election Commission’s decision to proceed with the elections despite challenging circumstances, highlighting the need to preserve democratic governance. Khan expressed concerns over heightened tensions between major political parties, noting that the dispute’s intensity had further complicated the political landscape.

Addressing concerns about voter turnout and allegations of electoral irregularities, Khan insisted that official election data should guide any discussions until disputes are addressed through constitutional and legal avenues available under the Election Commission.

Khan urged political stakeholders to resolve differences through dialogue and institutional engagement, emphasizing that concerns about the election process should be handled via established legal procedures instead of public confrontations. He also mentioned ongoing negotiations involving the Joint Awami Action Committee, the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and the Government of Pakistan, which have been in progress since 2023.
