DFP Criticizes Police Actions on Religious Texts in Kashmir

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has criticized the ongoing actions by Indian police against Islamic literature and religious texts in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as an attack on religious freedom.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, DFP spokesman advocate Arshad Iqbal stated that the efforts reflect an agenda aimed at eroding Muslim identity, history, and culture. He asserted that these actions would not succeed in changing the thoughts or disconnecting Kashmiris from their roots.

The DFP also condemned the dismissal of Kashmiri employees from their positions, viewing this as an economic suppression tactic. Iqbal expressed concern over the worsening political, human, and religious rights in the region, referencing a recent interview with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to highlight the dire state of religious freedom.

The spokesman noted that following the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A by the Indian government in 2019, basic freedoms, including religious freedoms, have been severely restricted.
