Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and UN Chief Discuss Multilateralism and Global Challenges


Islamabad: In a recent address at the Foreign Service Academy, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the crucial role of multilateralism in addressing global issues. The event, which focused on “Strengthening Multilateralism in a Changing World – Geopolitics and the Role of the United Nations,” was attended by diplomats, think tank representatives, and Foreign Ministry officers.



According to Press Information Department, Senator Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the United Nations’ principles, highlighting that multilateralism remains central to Pakistan’s foreign policy. He called for adherence to international law and the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, particularly stressing the importance of diplomatic solutions to the Palestinian and Jammu and Kashmir conflicts.



Guterres acknowledged Pakistan’s role in supporting the UN over the years and pointed out the interconnected global challenges such as conflict, inequality, climate change, and artificial intelligence. He advocated for stronger multilateral cooperation and a reformed United Nations to effectively tackle these issues. Guterres expressed confidence in Pakistan’s capacity for dialogue and cooperation, underscoring the importance of mutual respect in international relations.
