Islamabad: Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif has urged the resolution of contentious issues through democratic means and public mandate, emphasizing that voters should be the deciding factor in such matters. Addressing the National Assembly, Asif highlighted the sacrifices made by both Pakistanis and Kashmiris for their cause and reiterated the national significance of the Kashmir issue.

According to Radio Pakistan, during his speech centered on the Kashmir issue and the voting rights of Kashmiri refugees, Asif noted that many Kashmiris continue to live in refugee camps and stressed the importance of recognizing their identity and historical ties. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to support Kashmir across generations and called for all political parties to uphold the sanctity of Parliament, ensuring the effective functioning of democratic institutions.

Asif emphasized the need for collective efforts to fortify Parliament, enabling it to make decisions beneficial for the populace. He underscored the importance of a robust and empowered legislature for the socio-economic development of the nation.

In response to a Calling Attention Notice, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry informed the Assembly that the first phase of the Park Road infrastructure project is on track for completion next month, with the second phase expected by August. The project aims to significantly reduce commuter travel time.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq suspended the membership of PTI Member Iqbal Afridi for the current session, citing unacceptable behavior with lower-grade staff. Sadiq reinforced the importance of maintaining parliamentary discipline and protecting employee dignity. The Assembly is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow at 3 p.m.
