Cricket Trials Announced for May 2 in Rawalpindi


Rawalpindi: Cricket trials are scheduled to be held on May 2 in Rawalpindi as part of an initiative to promote sports within the region, announced Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting. The trials aim to provide young athletes an opportunity to demonstrate their skills based on merit as part of the Punjab government’s sports promotion efforts.



According to Press Information Department, Barrister Chaudhry made the announcement while serving as the Chief Guest at the CM Punjab Inter-District Kabaddi Championship 2026 at the ARL Hockey Ground, Morgah. He highlighted the Punjab government’s commitment to enhancing sports facilities under the guidance of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz. The initiative seeks to direct youth towards positive activities and away from detrimental influences, emphasizing the societal benefits of developing sports grounds.



The trials will select 10 players from the Under-23 category, 2 from Under-19, and 4 from an open category without age restrictions. Successful candidates will represent the region at the Punjab level, receiving support in the form of modern facilities and training from the Sports Board. Barrister Chaudhry expressed optimism that these efforts will help young players gain national and international recognition.



He commended the organizers of the kabaddi tournament for their successful execution and the association’s efforts in raising the profile of the sport. He noted that while sports were previously overlooked, the current government is making strides to foster athletic talent from the grassroots level.
