KARACHI: In response to directives from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, a comprehensive crackdown on traffic violations is underway across the province. The operation, which has resulted in the impounding of both heavy and light vehicles, has also led to recommendations for the cancellation of registration for 25 vehicles.

A report submitted to the chief minister by the Traffic Police outlined the measures taken between April 4 and April 14, 2025. It detailed the impoundment of 7,860 motorcycles for infractions including riding without helmets. Additionally, action was taken against 596 vehicles equipped with fancy number plates and tinted windows.

Further enforcement actions saw 193 heavy transport vehicles, such as dumpers and tankers, penalized for issues related to vehicle fitness and exceeding speed limits. The report suggested the permanent cancellation of registration for 25 vehicles, alongside the temporary suspension of registration for 144 others.

The chief minister underscored the importance of enforcing traffic laws to protect citizens’ safety and property. He mandated strict penalties for motorcyclists not wearing helmets and immediate fines for vehicles with unauthorized modifications.

Mr. Shah also called for speed restrictions on commercial heavy vehicles within city limits, setting a cap at 30 km/h, and advocated for a zero-tolerance policy against vehicles that are unfit or lack proper registration. He emphasized that these measures are crucial for public safety, and adherence to traffic regulations will be rigorously enforced.
