Srinagar: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has formally expressed its opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act, citing concerns about its implications for the management of Muslim religious affairs.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, CPI-M leader M Y Tarigami conveyed the party’s apprehensions. He questioned the necessity of singling out Muslims, noting that other religious groups manage their affairs without government interference.

Tarigami called on the government to uphold the rights of all religious communities equally. He emphasized the need to protect the autonomy of institutions responsible for overseeing religious assets.

The resolution reflects the ongoing debate over the Waqf Amendment Act and its potential impact on religious management in the region.
