Dubai: The Consulate General of Pakistan, Dubai, in partnership with National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) UAE, commemorated the International Day of Family Remittances at a ceremony at the Consulate. The event highlighted that remittances from the UAE to Pakistan surpassed USD 1 billion in May 2026, reflecting the contribution of Overseas Pakistanis to the national economy.

According to Press Information Department, the Consul General, H.E. Hussain Muhammad, addressed the gathering and congratulated the Pakistani community in the UAE for this achievement. He emphasized that remittances exceed mere financial transfers as they provide essential support to families in Pakistan and significantly contribute to the country’s economic stability and growth.

The Consul General also underscored the Consulate’s ongoing support for outreach efforts led by NBP in collaboration with financial institutions, exchange houses, business councils, and community organizations to promote the use of legal and formal remittance channels.

Representatives from NBP UAE, Mr. Rashid-ul-Islam and Mr. Asad Malik, expressed gratitude to the Consulate General for its support and acknowledged the Pakistani community in the UAE for their trust in formal banking and remittance channels. Appreciation certificates were presented to them by the Consul General for their efforts in promoting formal remittance channels.

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures from the Pakistani community, including Mr. Muhammad Shabbir Merchant, Chairman of Pakistan Business Council Dubai, and Mr. Saleem Akhtar, Vice President of Pakistan Business Council Sharjah, among others. The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony.
