Lahore: In a significant move aimed at supporting the agricultural sector, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a comprehensive relief package for wheat farmers, totaling fifteen billion rupees. The initiative is designed to provide direct financial assistance to 550,000 wheat growers through the Kisan Card.

The relief package includes a complete waiver of abiana and fixed agricultural taxes for the current year, offering substantial relief to farmers facing economic challenges. Additionally, the government will provide a four-month free storage facility for wheat, in an effort to shield farmers from the adverse effects of climate change.

In an added measure to support the wheat procurement process, the Punjab government will cover the markup on loans up to one hundred billion rupees for flour mills and grain license holders. This financial assistance is expected to ease the burden on the agricultural community and ensure a smooth procurement process.

These steps underscore the government’s commitment to bolstering the agricultural sector, ensuring food security, and supporting the livelihoods of farmers across the province.
