Islamabad: Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Advocate Amjad Hussain, conducted a visit to the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Headquarters in Islamabad. He was received by the Chairman of NDMA, Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, who provided an overview of the center’s operational capabilities.

According to Press Information Department, the briefing covered the NEOC’s early warning systems, real-time hazard monitoring, weather forecasting, risk assessment, and coordination mechanisms for disaster preparedness and emergency response. The Chief Minister was informed about the center’s role in monitoring various monsoon-related hazards, such as flash floods, landslides, Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs), and riverine flooding, with a specific focus on Gilgit-Baltistan.

Discussions during the meeting addressed the current monsoon situation, preparedness in Gilgit-Baltistan, and the necessity for timely information sharing and cooperation between federal and provincial bodies to reduce disaster risks and protect communities. Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan expressed appreciation for the NEOC’s capabilities and affirmed the region’s commitment to enhancing coordination with the NDMA for improved disaster risk management and resilience.
