Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Visits Maryamabad Church, Emphasizes Unity and Respect Among Faiths


Lahore, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz made a historic visit to Maryamabad Church, becoming the first Chief Minister to do so in 131 years, and participated in Easter celebrations. During this event, she distributed an Easter grant to Christian families and shared in the communal spirit of the festivities.



According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Nawaz’s visit to the Christian locality in Sheikhupura marked a significant gesture of interfaith harmony and support. She personally interacted with the community members, distributed grants of rupees 5 thousand Eidi per family to 10 thousand Christian families across Punjab, and joined in the Easter prayer ceremony led by Father Tariq George of Maryamabad Church.



In her address, Nawaz shared her vision of a Pakistan where all communities coexist peacefully, with full freedom of worship and protection. She recounted her educational journey at the Convent Jesus and Mary School and reflected on the teachings about universal compassion and equality. Emphasizing unity and collective identity, Nawaz highlighted the contributions of the Christian community to Pakistan’s progress, mentioning notable figures like Justice Cornellius and Cecil Chaudhry.



The event, which saw the participation of various political and religious leaders, underscored the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive society. Nawaz’s engagement with the community and her actions at the event illustrated a strong stance against discrimination and a move towards a more cohesive and respectful society.
