Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with the internationally acclaimed British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan at his official residence in Islamabad today to discuss a range of issues including youth engagement in constructive activities, the promotion of sports, and Pakistan’s image on the international stage.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting focused on enhancing the role of sports in promoting discipline, resilience, and teamwork among young people. Gilani lauded Amir Khan’s achievements, noting that his success has brought pride to Pakistan and its diaspora. He emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent as essential for the country’s future. The discussion also touched upon the contributions of overseas Pakistanis, with Gilani acknowledging their role in enhancing Pakistan’s global image and development.

Amir Khan expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reiterated his commitment to promoting youth welfare and a positive image of Pakistan. He revealed plans to establish a boxing academy and sports complex in Karachi in collaboration with the Pakistan Peoples Party. Khan also announced his intention to pursue a political career, aiming to serve the people of Pakistan. Gilani welcomed this aspiration, highlighting the benefits of involving talented individuals in politics for the nation’s progress.
