Islamabad: Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, marked World Oceans Day 2026 by calling for urgent global and national action to safeguard marine ecosystems and ensure the sustainable use of ocean resources. Emphasizing the theme “Reimagine,” Gilani highlighted the critical role oceans play in life support, climate regulation, food security, and economic growth, particularly for coastal nations like Pakistan.
According to Senate of Pakistan, Gilani stressed the shared responsibility of preserving marine biodiversity and addressing threats such as pollution, overfishing, and climate change. He noted the significance of protecting oceans, not only for environmental sustainability but also for economic stability, especially in sectors related to fisheries, trade, and the blue economy.
Gilani called upon policymakers, institutions, civil society, and youth to collaborate in safeguarding marine resources and ecosystems. He reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to international initiatives aimed at promoting cleaner and more sustainable oceans.
