Chairman Senate Gilani Hosts Belgian Royal Delegation, Highlights Pakistan-Belgium Relations


ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, met with the Belgian Royal Delegation at Parliament House, underscoring the commitment to enhance bilateral relations between Pakistan and Belgium. The meeting included discussions on parliamentary diplomacy and avenues for cooperation.



According to Senate of Pakistan, the delegation, consisting of His Highness Prince Édouard de Ligne La Trémoïlle and Her Highness Princess Isabella Orsini de Ligne La Trémoïlle, was warmly welcomed. The Chairman conveyed greetings from Pakistan and expressed satisfaction over the growing ties, emphasizing Belgium’s role as a key partner in Europe.



The discussions covered the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and the significance of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, an initiative by Gilani to promote global peace. The conference, held in Islamabad in November 2025, saw participation from 39 countries.



Economic cooperation was a focal point, with Gilani noting Belgium’s role as a major hub for Pakistani exports. Regional developments were also discussed, including Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for peace in the Middle East and its response to conflict with India.



The Belgian delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting global peace and expressed hope for continued diplomatic efforts. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen ties with Belgium through parliamentary exchanges, economic cooperation, and people-to-people contacts.
