ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani reaffirmed the commitment to the welfare of Senate employees by directing enhancements to the Employees Welfare Fund during a meeting at Parliament House. The fund, which provides financial assistance for marriage, bereavement, and emergencies, is supported by voluntary contributions from Senate Members and employees.

According to Senate of Pakistan, Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider highlighted that the fund relies on voluntary contributions to assist employees in Grades 1 to 15. Chairman Gilani emphasized the need for a review of the fund’s financial structure, acknowledging increased salaries over time and the necessity for a broader reach of benefits. He urged the recirculation of contribution forms among Members to bolster participation.

The meeting included a briefing on the current policy framework and assistance mechanisms. Chairman Gilani proposed consultations with insurance companies to develop sustainable welfare models. A sub-committee was formed, comprising Senators Samina Mumtaz Zehri, Nasir Mehmood Butt, and Aamir Waliuddin Chishti, to suggest improvements to the welfare system.

Senator Chishti suggested Hajj opportunities for Senate employees and pledged personal support for two employees, along with a monthly contribution to the fund.
