Islamabad: Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance and a leading figure in the cryptocurrency industry, has been appointed as a Strategic Advisor to the Pakistan Crypto Council. This development is seen as a pivotal step towards positioning Pakistan as an emerging hub for digital finance and blockchain technology.
The announcement was made during Zhao’s meeting with the Pakistan Crypto Council, chaired by the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. The session included key government officials, such as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and Federal Secretaries for Law and IT.
Senator Aurangzeb emphasized that Zhao’s involvement highlights Pakistan’s commitment to technological innovation. “This is a landmark moment for Pakistan,” he stated, signaling the country’s intent to advance in the global digital finance arena.
Bilal Bin Saqib, CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council, echoed this sentiment, noting Zhao’s expertise as invaluable. “Pakistan is opening its doors to the future of finance,” he remarked, expressing optimism about the nation’s trajectory in the Web3 domain.
As a Strategic Advisor, Zhao will focus on regulation, infrastructure, education, and adoption within the crypto ecosystem. His collaboration with the government and private sector aims to establish a compliant and competitive environment for digital assets in Pakistan.
Zhao highlighted the potential he sees in Pakistan, a nation with a youthful population that he believes can drive significant growth in the blockchain sector. His role is expected to accelerate the Council’s efforts to integrate Pakistan into the circle of nations recognized for their progressive approach to Web3 technologies.
The Pakistan Crypto Council, operating under the Finance Division, views Zhao’s appointment as a strategic move to align with countries like Singapore, Dubai, and Switzerland in the digital finance landscape.
