Benazir Income Support Programme Bolsters Women’s Empowerment, Senator Rubina Khalid Asserts

Islamabad: Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), vigorously defended the program’s impact on women’s economic empowerment in Pakistan during a media talk organized by WE News.

According to Press Information Department, Khalid addressed common misconceptions about BISP, asserting that it does not encourage dependency but rather aligns with global social security norms aimed at uplifting the impoverished. She emphasized that the program continues to embody the late Benazir Bhutto’s vision for women’s empowerment. Khalid announced a new collaboration with NEVTTC to provide technical skills training to deserving women and their families, a move expected to enhance their economic integration and contribution to national development.

She also detailed enhancements to the program’s payment system, including partnerships with six banks to improve transparency and the establishment of payment campsites to ensure dignified disbursements to beneficiaries. Khalid highlighted efforts to combat fraud and the program’s expansion to support over 9.3 million families, with rigorous systems to update beneficiary eligibility every three years.
