Bar Councils Endorse Jilani to Lead Inquiry into Islamabad High Court Judges’ Concerns

Islamabad, In a significant development, various bar councils across Pakistan have expressed their support for the establishment of an inquiry commission led by former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Tassaduq Hussain Jillani. The commission is tasked with investigating the issues highlighted by six Islamabad High Court judges in a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Vice Chairman of Pakistan Bar Council, Riazat Ali Sahar, and the Chairman of its Executive Committee, Farooq Hamid Naek, have publicly backed the appointment of Jillani as the chairman of the inquiry commission. They have also voiced their opposition to the demands made by a political party for the resignation of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, denouncing such calls as politically motivated attacks aimed at undermining the judiciary.

The Supreme Court Bar Association, in its commendation of Jillani’s appointment, labeled the resignation demands for the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court as highly inappropriate. Meanwhile, the Peshawar High Court Bar Association highlighted Jillani’s esteemed contributions to the legal field and his unwavering dedication to the supremacy of law and constitution in Pakistan.

Further endorsements came from the High Court Bar Association Abbottabad and the High Court Bar Association Bahawalpur, both of which stressed their belief in the constitutional process and expressed confidence in Jillani’s impartiality and integrity. The Punjab Bar Council and High Court Bar Association Multan also lauded Jillani as a noncontroversial figure whose recommendations are anticipated to strengthen the judiciary’s dignity and independence.

This widespread support from the legal community underscores the significance of the inquiry commission’s role in addressing the concerns raised by the Islamabad High Court judges, as well as the trust placed in Jillani’s leadership to uphold the principles of justice and transparency in the investigation process.
