Attack in Manipur Leaves Three Policemen Critically Injured

IMPHAL, An attack in the tumultuous Indian state of Manipur has left three policemen in critical condition.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a group of unidentified attackers targeted a police convoy at Sinam in the Tengnoupal district. The attacked policemen were believed to be part of a backup team headed to Moreh town after the assassination of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chingtham Anand Kumar.

Kumar met his tragic end in an ambush while he was surveying a newly established helipad in Moreh town the previous day. Notably, the ongoing unrest in Manipur has resulted in over 200 casualties in recent months. This strife was triggered on May 03 following a Tribal Solidarity March in the hilly districts, which was organized in opposition to the Meitei community’s plea for Scheduled Tribe recognition.

In response to the continued unrest, the Manipur government has chosen to extend the mobile internet suspension in the region until November 05.
