APHC Attributes BJP’s Electoral Loss to Kashmiri Aspiration for Self-Determination

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has emphasized the unwavering commitment of Kashmiris to self-determination in light of the recent electoral defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring the region’s rejection of Indian authority and the importance of UN resolutions in resolving the Kashmir dispute.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman, Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, stated that the BJP’s loss in the elections, despite heavy military presence and the use of state mechanisms, signifies Kashmiri resistance to Indian dominion and highlights the region’s ongoing status as an international issue. Minhas criticized the elections as an Indian ploy to maintain its hold over Kashmir, yet noted that the election results reflect the prevailing global understanding of the dispute.

The spokesman further declared the necessity of adhering to the UN’s resolution from January 5 for a definitive resolution to the Kashmir conflict, stating that genuine peace in South Asia hinges on justly resolving the Kashmir dispute and respecting the aspirations of its people. He condemned the Indian government’s actions on August 5, 2019, as a breach of UN mandates, advocating for international support in achieving a peaceful and fair resolution that acknowledges the desires of the Kashmiri populace.

The APHC also called for an immediate cessation of military oppression in Kashmir and urged global leaders to actively support a resolution that ensures sustainable peace in the region.
