MIRPUR, In concurrence with the rest of the world, World Human Rights Day was observed on both sides of the Line of Control, with a unanimous call for an immediate cessation of ongoing massive human rights abuses in the disputed Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), as well as in other conflict zones including occupied Palestine.
According to Kashmir Media Service, special ceremonies were organized in various parts of AJK, including the Mirpur division. These events, coordinated by a range of social, political, human rights, and public representative organizations, alongside diverse segments of civil society, focused on commemorating the day and raising awareness of human rights issues.
Speakers at these ceremonies highlighted the urgent need for collective international action to ensure the complete protection of human rights globally, particularly in regions such as Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir. They stressed that the population in these areas has been subjected to some of the worst human rights violations since August 5, 2019.
The speakers urged international human rights organizations to take steps to guarantee the provision of basic human rights in conflict areas, specifically in the strife-torn Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir. They emphasized the necessity of recognizing the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
At separate rallies marking World Human Rights Day, President of the Jammu Kashmir Union of Journalists Hafiz Maqsood, and others, vehemently condemned the escalating human rights abuses against Kashmiris. Politician Ch. Muneer Hussain Advocate, in his address, called upon India to cease its oppressive activities in the occupied region and encouraged the resumption of result-oriented dialogue with Pakistan, aimed at the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue and other outstanding disputes.
