Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has initiated a national campaign aimed at promoting historical awareness and cultural heritage among the younger generation. The announcement came during a meeting focused on commemorating the 150th birth anniversaries of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal, as well as the 500th anniversary of the Mughal Empire.
According to Press Information Department, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that the commemorative activities should extend beyond ceremonial events and serve as a platform for fostering national consciousness, intellectual awakening, and a deeper connection with history. The initiative aims to engage schools, colleges, and educational institutions nationwide from September to December, with activities including essay writing, speeches, and painting competitions based on the vision of Quaid-e-Azam.
Ahsan Iqbal also urged that the events should meet international standards, with renowned scholars and historians invited to highlight the contributions of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. He further directed the production of a comprehensive documentary on the Mughal Empire’s contributions to governance, arts, and architecture, aiming to offer a balanced perspective on the era’s historical significance.
During the meeting, the sacrifices made by Quaid-e-Azam were underscored, emphasizing his commitment to securing an independent homeland for Muslims in the subcontinent. The Minister called for the youth to be made aware of these sacrifices and the personal dedication that facilitated the creation of Pakistan. He stressed that understanding this history is crucial for fostering a sense of responsibility towards Pakistan’s development and prosperity.
The 500th anniversary of the Mughal Empire’s establishment was also highlighted, with Ahsan Iqbal urging that its history be presented not only through the lens of rulers and wars but also in terms of its impact on local culture and administrative systems. The documentary is expected to cover various dimensions of the Mughal era, providing a comprehensive understanding of its influence on the region.
Relevant ministries and institutions have been tasked with ensuring the effective implementation of these activities, as part of a broader effort to connect the younger generation with their historical roots. Senior officials from various government bodies, including the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Pakistan Television, attended the meeting to discuss the campaign’s objectives and execution.
