Actions against smog, during seven days 225 cases were registered, 153 accused were arrested, this year a total of 2224 cases registered and 2376 accused arrested: Spokesperson Punjab Police 

Lahore, November 22, 2021 (PPI-OT):Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has said that co-operation of police, district administration, environment, health and other concerned departments is essential for curbing anti-environmental activities causing smog. Police teams in all districts should continue their anti-smog operations and take actions against massive smoke emitting vehicles, stubble burning and factories and kilns owners for causing environmental pollution on priority basis. As per directions of IG Punjab, crackdown against anti-smog has been intensified across the province.

A spokesperson of Punjab Police, while presenting a report on all smog-related activities in all districts of province, including high-smoke emitting vehicles, burning of stubble and tires said that since January 1st this year, overall 2224 anti-smog cases were registered and 2376 accused were arrested. During last seven days, 225 cases have been registered across Punjab and 153 accused have been arrested.

In Multan region, 46 cases for stubble, tyres and lubricants burning were registered and 38 people were arrested. In Gujranwala region, 80 cases of burning of stubble, tyres and lubricants were registered and 59 persons were arrested. In Faisalabad region, 35 cases were registered and 28 persons were arrested for spreading smog. Likewise, in Sahiwal region 13 cases were registered for smog-causing activities and 02 persons were arrested.

In Sheikhupura region, 15 cases were registered and 11 persons were arrested. In DG Khan Region, 09 cases were registered for spreading smog. In Bahawalpur region, 10 cases were registered against burning of stubble, tyres and lubricants and one accused was arrested while in Lahore, 6 cases were registered and 6 persons were arrested for causing smog.

The spokesperson further said that the citizens are requested to refrain from any hostile activities which could lead to spread of smog. He further directed citizens to keep eye on their surroundings and report 15 against persons causing smog and also extend possible support to government departments to reduce environmental pollution.
