New Delhi, May 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi MP has termed Gyanvapi Masjid verdict “a textbook repeat of December 1949 in Babri Masjid.” He probably referred to the placement of idols in Babri Masjid in 1949 and later its demolition in December 1992.
A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi ordered that the pond used for ablution in the iconic Gyanvapi Mosque complex be sealed amid reports that a “Shivling” has been found in it.
The Varanasi court ordered the district magistrate to seal the area and prohibit the entry of any person to the area. The DM, police commissioner, police commissioner and the CRPF commandant Varanasi are responsible for the security of the sealed area.
“This order itself changes the religious nature of the masjid,” Owaisi said.
According to Hyderabad MP, the recent order is a violation of Places of Worship Act 1991.
As per the Act, “no person shall convert any place of worship of any religious denomination or any section thereof into a place of worship of a different section of the same religious denomination or of a different religious denomination or any section thereof.”
“This was my apprehension and it has come true. Gyanvapi Masjid was and will remain a masjid till judgement day, In Sha Allah,” read Owaisi’s tweet.
Earlier Owaisi asserted that he does not want to lose another masjid, after Babri Masjid.
“This is a blatant violation and I hope that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and the Masjid committee would go to the Supreme Court. I have lost one Babri Masjid and I don’t want to lose another masjid,” he stated last week.
The order comes hours after the court-ordered video survey of the Gyanvapi mosque, as opposed by Muslim management, was completed. The survey report must be submitted on coming Tuesday. “Only 20 Muslims should be allowed to offer Namaz and they should also be stopped from performing Wudu immediately,” directs the order.
The direction comes after an advocate filed a petition in the court of civil judge senior division Ravi Kumar Diwakar seeking the area, where some concrete evidence was found, to be protected. Meanwhile, a bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud will tomorrow hear the petition filed by Anjuman Masjid Committee against the Varanasi Court’s order directing the survey of Gyanvapi mosque.
