Karachi: The Reko Diq Project, a significant mining venture in Pakistan, is poised to generate $74 billion in free cash flow, marking a notable contribution to the country’s economic landscape. The project’s advancement has been bolstered by the efforts of the Special Investment Facilitation Council, which has led to a new phase of development.
At the recent Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025, international investors expressed growing interest in Reko Diq and other mineral reserves in the region. This interest follows the approval of the first phase of development funding, based on a comprehensive feasibility report.
The Reko Diq Project is a collaborative effort involving Barrick Gold, the Government of Pakistan, and the Government of Balochistan. By 2034, the annual processing capacity of the project is expected to double from 45 million to 90 million tons.
In addition to its economic impact, the project is set to create substantial employment opportunities. It will offer long-term jobs to 4,000 local residents and provide construction employment to 7,500 workers. The integration of modern machinery and global technology is expected to enhance the efficiency of mining operations.
The Special Investment Facilitation Council has played a crucial role in advancing the project’s progress and boosting international confidence in Pakistan’s mineral sector. This initiative underscores the potential for significant growth and development within the country’s mining industry.
